1Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David.

2Hear, O God, my prayer, and despise not my supplication:

3Be attentive to me and hear me. I am grieved in my exercise; and am troubled,

4At the voice of the enemy, and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have cast iniquities upon me: and in wrath they were troublesome to me.

5My heart is troubled within me: and the fear of death is fallen upon me.

6Fear and trembling are come upon me: and darkness hath covered me.

7And I said: Who will give me wings like a dove, and I will fly and be at rest?

8Lo, I have gone far off flying away; and I abode in the wilderness.

9I waited for him that hath saved me from pusillanimity of spirit, and a storm.

10Cast down, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.

11Day and night shall iniquity surround it upon its walls: and in the midst thereof are labour,

12And injustice. And usury and deceit have not departed from its streets.

13For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.

14But thou a man of one mind, my guide, and my familiar,

15Who didst take sweetmeats together with me: in the house of God we walked with consent.

16Let death come upon them, and let them go down alive into hell. For there is wickedness in their dwellings: in the midst of them.

17But I have cried to God: and the Lord will save me.

18Evening and morning, and at noon I will speak and declare: and he shall hear my voice.

19He shall redeem my soul in peace from them that draw near to me: for among many they were with me.

20God shall hear, and the Eternal shall humble them. For there is no change with them, and they have not feared God:

21He hath stretched forth his hand to repay. They have defiled his covenant,

22They are divided by the wrath Of his countenance, and his heart hath drawn near. His words are smoother than oil, and the same are darts.

23Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall not suffer the just to waver for ever.

24But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee, O Lord.

1In finem, in carminibus. Intellectus David.

3intende mihi, et exaudi me. Contristatus sum in exercitatione mea, et conturbatus sum

4a voce inimici, et a tribulatione peccatoris. Quoniam declinaverunt in me iniquitates, et in ira molesti erant mihi.

5Cor meum conturbatum est in me, et formido mortis cecidit super me.

6Timor et tremor venerunt super me, et contexerunt me tenebræ.

7Et dixi: Quis dabit mihi pennas sicut columbæ, et volabo, et requiescam?

8Ecce elongavi fugiens, et mansi in solitudine.

9Exspectabam eum qui salvum me fecit a pusillanimitate spiritus, et tempestate.

Et si is qui oderat me super me magna locutus fuisset, abscondissem me forsitan ab eo.

21Extendit manum suam in retribuendo; contaminaverunt testamentum ejus:

22divisi sunt ab ira vultus ejus, et appropinquavit cor illius. Molliti sunt sermones ejus super oleum; et ipsi sunt jacula.

23Jacta super Dominum curam tuam, et ipse te enutriet; non dabit in æternum fluctuationem justo.

24Tu vero, Deus, deduces eos in puteum interitus.

1Unto the end. In verses, the understanding of David.

2Listen to my prayer, O God, and despise not my supplication.

3Be attentive to me, and heed me. I have been grieved in my training, and I have been disturbed

4at the voice of the adversary and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have diverted iniquities toward me, and they have been harassing me with rage.

5My heart has become disturbed within me, and the dread of death has fallen over me.

6Fear and trembling have overwhelmed me, and darkness has buried me.

7And I said, “Who will give me wings like the dove, so that I may fly away and take rest?”

8Behold, I have fled far away, and I linger in solitude.

9I waited for him who saved me from a weak-minded spirit and from a tempest.

10Cast them down, O Lord, and divide their tongues. For I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.

11Day and night, iniquity will surround it upon its walls, and hardship is in its midst,

12with injustice. And usury and deceit have not fallen away from its streets.

13For if my enemy had spoken evil about me, certainly, I would have sustained it. And if he who hated me had been speaking great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.

14Truly, you are a man of one mind: my leader and my acquaintance,

15who took sweet food together with me. In the house of God, we walked side-by-side.

16Let death come upon them, and let them descend alive into Hellfire. For there is wickedness in their dwellings, in their midst.

17But I have cried out to God, and the Lord will save me.

18Evening and morning and midday, I will discourse and announce, and he will heed my voice.

19He will redeem my soul in peace from those who draw near to me. For, among the many, they were with me.

20God will hear, and He who is before time will humble them. For there is no change with them, and they have not feared God.

21He has stretched forth his hand in retribution. They have contaminated his covenant.

22They were divided by the wrath of his countenance, and his heart has drawn near. His words are smoother than oil, and they are arrows.

23Cast your cares upon the Lord, and he will nurture you. He will not allow the just to be tossed about forever.

24Truly, O God, you will lead them away into the well of death. Bloody and deceitful men will not divide their days in half. But I will hope in you, O Lord.
