1This is the book of the commandments of God, and the law, that is for ever: all they that keep it, shall come to life: but they that have forsaken it, to death.
2Return, O Jacob, and take hold of it, walk in the way by its brightness, in the presence of the light thereof.
3Give not thy honour to another, nor thy dignity to a strange nation.
4We are happy, O Israel: because the things that are pleasing to God, are made known to us.
5Be of good comfort, O people of God, the memorial of Israel:
6You have been sold to the Gentiles, not for your destruction: but because you provoked God to wrath, you are delivered to your adversaries.
7For you have provoked him who made you, the eternal God, offering sacrifice to devils, and not to God.
8For you have forgotten God, who brought you up, and you have grieved Jerusalem that nursed you.
9For she saw the wrath of God coming upon you, and she said: Give ear, all you that dwell near Sion, for God hath brought upon me great mourning:
10For I have seen the captivity of my people, of my sons, and my daughters, which the Eternal hath brought upon them.
11For I nourished them with joy: but I sent them away with weeping and mourning.
12Let no man rejoice over me, a widow, and desolate: I am forsaken of many for the sins of my children, because they departed from the law of God.
13And they have not known his justices, nor walked by the ways of God’s commandments, neither have they entered by the paths of his truth and justice.
14Let them that dwell about Sion come, and remember the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Eternal hath brought upon them.
15For he hath brought a nation upon them from afar, a wicked nation, and of a strange tongue:
16Who have neither reverenced the ancient, nor pitied children, and have carried away the beloved of the widow, and have left me all alone without children.
17But as for me, what help can I give you?
18But he that hath brought the evils upon you, he will deliver you out of the hands of your enemies.
19Go your way, my children, go your way: for I am left alone.
20I have put off the robe of peace, and have put upon me the sackcloth of supplication, and I will cry to the most High in my days.
21Be of good comfort, my children, cry to the Lord, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the princes your enemies.
22For my hope is in the Eternal that he will save you: and joy is come upon me from the Holy One, because of the mercy which shall come to you from our everlasting Saviour.
23For I sent you forth with mourning and weeping: but the Lord will bring you back to me with joy and gladness for ever.
24For as the neighbours of Sion have now seen your captivity from God: so shall they also shortly see your salvation from God, which shall come upon you with great honour, and everlasting glory.
25My children, suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you: for thy enemy hath persecuted thee, but thou shalt quickly see his destruction: and thou shalt get up upon his neck.
26My delicate ones have walked rough ways, for they were taken away as a flock made a prey by the enemies.
27Be of good comfort, my children, and cry to the Lord: for you shall be remembered by him that hath led you away.
28For as it was your mind to go astray from God; so when you return again you shall seek him ten times as much.
29For he that hath brought evils upon you, shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation.
30Be of good heart, O Jerusalem: for he exhorteth thee, that named thee.
31The wicked that have afflicted thee, shall perish: and they that have rejoiced at thy ruin, shall be punished.
32The cities which thy children have served, shall be punished: and she that received thy sons.
33For as she rejoiced at thy ruin, and was glad of thy fall: so shall she be grieved for her own desolation.
34And the joy of her multitude shall be cut off: and her gladness shall be turned to mourning.
35For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal, long to endure, and she shall be inhabited by devils for a great time.
36Look about thee, O Jerusalem, towards the east, and behold the joy that cometh to thee from God.
37For behold thy children come, whom thou sentest away scattered, they come gathered together from the east even to the west, at the word of the Holy One rejoicing for the honour of God.

12Nemo gaudeat super me viduam et desolatam: a multis derelicta sum propter peccata filiorum meorum, quia declinaverunt a lege Dei.

1“ ‘This is the book of the commandments of God and of the law, which exists in eternity. All those who keep it will attain to life, but those who have forsaken it, to death.
2Convert, O Jacob, and embrace it, walk in the way of its splendor, facing its light.
3Do not surrender your glory to another, nor your value to a foreign people.
4We have been happy, O Israel, because the things that are pleasing to God have been made clear to us.
5Be ever more peaceful in soul, O people of God, the memorial of Israel.
6You have been sold to the nations, not into destruction, but because of this, in resentment, you provoked God to wrath, and so you have been delivered to adversity.
7For you have exasperated him who made you, the eternal God, by sacrificing to evil spirits, and not to God.
8For you have forgotten God, who nurtured you, and you have saddened Jerusalem, your nurse.
9For she saw the wrath of God approaching you, and she said, “Listen, region of Zion, for God has brought upon me great sorrow.
10For I have seen the captivity of my people, my sons and daughters, which the Eternal has led over them.
11For I nurtured them with joy, but I sent them away with weeping and sorrow.
12Let no one rejoice over me, a widow and a desolation, for I am forsaken by many because of the sins of my sons, because they strayed from the law of God.
13And they have not known his righteousness, nor walked in the ways of the commandments of God, nor have they advanced with justice along the paths of his truth.
14Let the region of Zion approach, and remember the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Eternal led over them.
15For he has brought a far away people upon them, a guilty people, and of another language,
16who have not reverenced the aged, nor had mercy on the children, and who have led away the beloved of the widow, leaving me deserted and alone, without sons.
17But as for me, how am I able to help you?
18For he who has brought these evils upon you, will rescue you from the hands of your enemies.
19Walk on, sons, walk on, for I have been abandoned and I am alone.
20I have taken off the garment of peace and have put on the sackcloth of supplication, and I will cry out to the most High in my days.
21Be ever more peaceful, sons. Cry out to the Lord, and he will rescue you from the hand of the hostile leaders.
22For I have placed my hope in your eternal salvation, and joy approaches me from the Holy One, over the mercy which will come to you by our eternal salvation.
23For I sent you forth with sorrow and weeping, but the Lord will restore you to me with joy and gladness for eternity.
24For just as the neighbors of Zion have seen your captivity from God, so also will they soon see your salvation from God, which will overcome you with great honor and eternal splendor.
25Sons, endure patiently the wrath that has come upon you, for your enemy has persecuted you, but you will quickly see his destruction and you will climb over his neck.
26My delicate ones have walked rough ways, for they were regarded as a flock torn apart by enemies.
27Be ever more peaceful in soul, sons, and call out to the Lord, for you will be remembered by him who led you away.
28For as much as you thought to go astray from God, ten times as much again he will require of you when converting.
29For he who led you into evil, he himself will again lead you to eternal happiness with your salvation.”
30Be ever more peaceful in soul, Jerusalem, for he who has named you, has been affected by you.
31The criminals who have troubled you, will perish, and those who rejoiced in your ruin, will be punished.
32The cities that your sons have served, will be punished, and also, she who received your sons.
33For just as she was glad at your ruin, and she rejoiced in your fall, so also will she be grieved in her own desolation,
34and the exaltation of her multitude will be cut off, and her gladness will be turned to sorrow.
35For fire will overcome her from the Eternal for many days, and she will be inhabited by evil spirits for a long time.
36Look around, Jerusalem, towards the east, and see the happiness that comes to you from God.
37For behold, your sons approach, whom you sent away scattered. They approach, gathering together, from the east all the way to the west, at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the honor of God.
