1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope:
2To Timothy, his beloved son in faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
3As I desired thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some not to teach otherwise,
4Not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies: which furnish questions rather than the edification of God, which is in faith.
5Now the end of the commandment is charity, from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.
6From which things some going astray, are turned aside unto vain babbling:
7Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither the things they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully:
9Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10For fornicators, for them who defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine,
11Which is according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which hath been committed to my trust.
12I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;
13Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
15A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.
16But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting.
17Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18This precept I commend to thee, O son Timothy; according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare,
19Having faith and a good conscience, which some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith.
20Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered up to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

1Paulus Apostolus Jesu Christi secundum imperium Dei Salvatoris nostri, et Christi Jesu spei nostræ,
2Timotheo dilecto filio in fide.
12Gratias ago ei, qui me confortavit, Christo Jesu Domino nostro, quia fidelem me existimavit, ponens in ministerio:
Amen.

1Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the authority of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope,
2to Timothy, beloved son in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
3Now I asked you to remain at Ephesus, while I went into Macedonia, so that you would speak strongly against certain ones who have been teaching a different way,
4against those who have been paying attention to fables and endless genealogies. These things present questions as if they were greater than the edification that is of God, which is in faith.
5Now the goal of instruction is charity from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.
6Certain persons, wandering away from these things, have been turned aside to empty babbling,
7desiring to be teachers of the law, but understanding neither the things that they themselves are saying, nor what they are affirming about these things.
8But we know that the law is good, if one makes use of it properly.
9Knowing this, that the law was not set in place for the just, but for the unjust and the insubordinate, for the impious and sinners, for the wicked and the defiled, for those who commit patricide, matricide, or homicide,
10for fornicators, for males who sleep with males, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,
11which is in accord with the Gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the Gospel which has been entrusted to me.
12I give thanks to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he has considered me faithful, placing me in the ministry,
13though previously I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contemptuous. But then I obtained the mercy of God. For I had been acting ignorantly, in unbelief.
14And so the grace of our Lord has abounded greatly, with the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.
15It is a faithful saying, and worthy of acceptance by everyone, that Christ Jesus came into this world to bring salvation to sinners, among whom I am first.
16But it was for this reason that I obtained mercy, so that in me as first, Christ Jesus would display all patience, for the instruction of those who would believe in him unto eternal life.
17So then, to the King of ages, to the immortal, invisible, solitary God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
18This precept I commend to you, my son Timothy, in accord with the prophets who preceded you: that you serve among them like a soldier in a good war,
19holding to faith and good conscience, against those who, by rejecting these things, have made a shipwreck of the faith.
20Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they may learn not to blaspheme.
