Amos 1

1Paroles d’Amos, qui fut parmi les bergers de Thécué. Ce qu’il a vu au sujet d’Israël, dans les jours d’Ozias, roi de Juda, et dans les jours de Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d’Israël, deux ans avant le tremblement de terre.

2Il dit : Yahweh rugira de Sion ; de Jérusalem il fera entendre sa voix ; les pâturages des bergers seront en deuil, et le sommet du Carmel sera desséché.

3Ainsi parle Yahweh : À cause de trois crimes de Damas, et à cause de quatre, – je ne le révoquerai point. Parce qu’ils ont broyé Galaad avec des traîneaux de fer,

4j’enverrai le feu dans la maison d’Hazaël, et il dévorera les palais de Ben-Hadad ;

5je briserai le verrou de Damas, j’exterminerai de Biqath-Aven l’habitant, et de Beth-Eden, celui qui tient le sceptre ; et le peuple de Syrie ira captif à Qir, dit Yahweh.

6Ainsi parle Yahweh : À cause de trois crimes de Gaza, et à cause de quatre, — je ne le révoquerai point. Parce qu’ils ont déporté des convois entiers de captifs, pour les livrer à Édom,

7j’enverrai le feu dans les murs de Gaza, et il dévorera ses palais ;

8j’exterminerai d’Azot l’habitant, et d’Ascalon celui qui tient le sceptre, et je tournerai ma main sur Accaron ; et le reste des Philistins périra, dit le Seigneur Yahweh.

9Ainsi parle Yahweh : À cause de trois crimes de Tyr, et à cause de quatre, — je ne le révoquerai point. Parce qu’ils ont livré des convois entiers de captifs à Édom, et ne se sont pas souvenus de l’alliance fraternelle,

10j’enverrai le feu sur le mur de Tyr, et il dévorera ses palais.

11Ainsi parle Yahweh : À cause de trois crimes d’Édom, et à cause de quatre, — je ne le révoquerai point. Parce qu’il a poursuivi son frère avec le glaive, et qu’il a étouffé sa compassion, et parce que sa colère déchire à jamais, et qu’il garde jusqu’à la fin sa rancune,

12j’enverrai le feu dans Théman, et il dévorera les palais de Bosra.

13Ainsi parle Yahweh : À cause de trois crimes des enfants d’Ammon, et à cause de quatre, — je ne le révoquerai point. Parce qu’ils ont fendu le ventre des femmes enceintes de Galaad, afin d’élargir leur frontière,

14j’allumerai un feu sur le mur de Rabbah, et il dévorera ses palais, au milieu des cris de guerre d’un jour de bataille, au milieu du tourbillon d’un jour de tempête.

15Et leur roi s’en ira en captivité, lui et ses princes avec lui, dit Yahweh.

1Verba Amos, qui fuit in pastoribus de Thecue, quæ vidit super Israël in diebus Oziæ, regis Juda, et in diebus Jeroboam, filii Joas, regis Israël, ante duos annos terræmotus.

2Et dixit: [Dominus de Sion rugiet, et de Jerusalem dabit vocem suam; et luxerunt speciosa pastorum, et exsiccatus est vertex Carmeli.

3Hæc dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Damasci, et super quatuor non convertam eum, eo quod trituraverint in plaustris ferreis Galaad.

4Et mittam ignem in domum Azaël, et devorabit domos Benadad.

5Et conteram vectem Damasci: et disperdam habitatorem de campo idoli, et tenentem sceptrum de domo voluptatis: et transferetur populus Syriæ Cyrenen, dicit Dominus.

6Hæc dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Gazæ, et super quatuor non convertam eum, eo quod transtulerint captivitatem perfectam, ut concluderent eam in Idumæa.

7Et mittam ignem in murum Gazæ, et devorabit ædes ejus.

8Et disperdam habitatorem de Azoto, et tenentem sceptrum de Ascalone: et convertam manum meam super Accaron, et peribunt reliqui Philisthinorum, dicit Dominus Deus.

9Hæc dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Tyri, et super quatuor non convertam eum, eo quod concluserint captivitatem perfectam in Idumæa, et non sint recordati fœderis fratrum.

10Et mittam ignem in murum Tyri, et devorabit ædes ejus.

11Hæc dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Edom, et super quatuor non convertam eum, eo quod persecutus sit in gladio fratrem suum, et violaverit misericordiam ejus, et tenuerit ultra furorem suum, et indignationem suam servaverit usque in finem.

12Mittam ignem in Theman, et devorabit ædes Bosræ.

13Hæc dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus filiorum Ammon, et super quatuor non convertam eum, eo quod dissecuerit prægnantes Galaad ad dilatandum terminum suum.

14Et succendam ignem in muro Rabba, et devorabit ædes ejus in ululatu in die belli, et in turbine in die commotionis.

15Et ibit Melchom in captivitatem, ipse et principes ejus simul, dicit Dominus.]

1The words of Amos, who was among herdsmen of Thecua: which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Ozias king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joas king of Israel two years before the earthquake.

2And he said: The Lord will roar from Sion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem: and the beautiful places of the shepherds have mourned, and the top of Carmel is withered.

3Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Damascus, and for four I will not convert it: because they have thrashed Galaad with iron wains.

4And I will send a fire into the house of Azael, and it shall devour the houses of Benadad.

5And I will break the bar of Damascus: and I will cut off the inhabitants from the plain of the idol, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of pleasure: and the people of Syria shall be carried away to Cyrene, saith the Lord.

6Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Gaza, and for four I will not convert it: because they have carried away a perfect captivity to shut them up in Edom.

7And I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the houses thereof.

8And I will cut off the inhabitant from Azotus, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ascalon: and I will turn my hand against Accaron, and the rest of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.

9Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Tyre, and for four I will not convert it: because they have shut up an entire captivity in Edom, and have not remembered the covenant of brethren.

10And I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the houses thereof.

11Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Edom, and for four I will not convert him: because he hath pursued his brother with the sword, and hath cast off all pity, and hath carried on his fury, and hath kept his wrath to the end.

12I will send a fire into Theman: and it shall devour the houses of Bosra.

13Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of the children of Ammon, and for four I will not convert him: because he hath ripped up the women with child of Galaad to enlarge his border.

14And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabba: and it shall devour the houses thereof with shouting in the day of battle, and with a whirlwind in the day of trouble.

15And Melchom shall go into captivity, both he, and his princes together, saith the Lord.
