1Hijos de Judá: Fares, Hesrón, Carmí, Hur y Sobal,

2Raías, hijo de Sobal, engendró a Jáhat. Jáhat engendró a Ahumai y a Lahad. Estas son las familias de los sarateos.

3He aquí los descendientes de la estirpe de Etam: Jesreel, Ismá e Idbás; su hermana se llamaba Hasalelponí.

4Fanuel fue padre de Gedor, y Éser, padre de Husá. Estos son los hijos de Hur, primogénito de Efrata, padre de Betlehem.

5Ashur, padre de Tecoa, tuvo dos mujeres: Hela y Naará.

6De Naará le nacieron: Ohosam, Héfer, Temaní y Haahastarí. Estos son los hijos de Naará.

7Hijos de Hela: Séret, Ishar y Etnán.

8Cos engendró a Anob, a Zobebá y las familias de Aharhel, hijo de Harum.

9Jabés fue más ilustre que sus hermanos; su madre le dio el nombre de Jabés, diciendo: “Porque le di a luz con dolor.”

10Jabés invocó al Dios de Israel, diciendo: “Cólmame, te ruego, de bendiciones y ensancha mis términos; protégeme con tu mano y guárdame del mal, de modo que no padezca aflicción.” Y Dios le otorgó su petición.

11Kelub, hermano de Suhá, engendró a Mehir, que fue padre de Estón.

12Estón engendró a Betrafa, a Pasee y Tehiná, padre de la ciudad de Nahás. Estos son los hombres de Recá.

13Hijos de Quenaz: Otoniel y Saraías. Hijo de Otoniel: Hatat (y Maonatí).

14Maonatí engendró a Ofrá; y Saraías engendró a Joab, padre del Valle de los artesanos; pues eran artesanos.

15Hijos de Caleb, hijo de Jefone: Ir, Elá y Náam. Hijo de Elá: Quenaz.

16Hijos de Jehalelel: Zif, Zifá, Tiriá y Asarel.

17Hiios de Esrá: Jéter, Méred, Éfer y Jalón. (Jéter) engendró a María, a Samai y a Isbah, padre de Estamo.

18Su mujer, la de Judá, dio a luz a Jéred, padre de Gedor, a Héber, padre de Soco, y a Jecutiel, padre de Zanoa. Aquellos (primeros) fueron los hijos de Bitiá, hija del Faraón, que Méred había tomado por mujer.

19Hijos de la mujer de Hodías, hermana de Náham: el padre de Ceilá, Garmí y Estemoa macaatita.

20Hijos de Simón: Amnón, Riná, Benhanán y Tilón. Hijos de Isí: Zóhet y Benzóhet.

21Hijos de Selá, hijo de Judá: Er, padre de Leca, Laadá, padre de Maresá, y las familias de los que labran el lino en Bet-Asbea,

22y Joquim, los hombres de Cozebá, y Joás y Saraf, los cuales dominaron en Moab y Jasubi-Léhem. Estas son cosas antiguas.

23Eran ellos alfareros y habitaban en Netaim y Cederá. Habitaban allí al servicio del rey trabajando por él.

24Hijos de Simeón: Namuel, lamín, Jarib, Zéra y Saúl.

25Sellum, su hijo; Mibsam, su hijo; Misma, su hijo.

26Hijos de Mismá: Hanuel, su hijo; Zacur, su hijo; Semeí, su hijo.

27Semeí tuvo diez y seis hijos y seis hijas. Pero sus hermanos no tuvieron muchos hijos, ni se multiplicaron todas sus familias como los hijos de Judá.

28Habitaban en Bersabee, Moladá, Hazarsual,

29Bilhá, Ésem, Tolad,

30Betuel, Hormá, Siceleg,

31Bet- Marcabot, Hasarsusim, Betbirí y Saaraim. Estas fueron sus ciudades hasta el reinado de David,

32con sus aldeas. (Además): Etam, Ain, Rimón, Toquen y Asan; cinco localidades,

33con todas sus aldeas que están en torno a aquellas ciudades, hasta Baal. Estas son sus moradas, y su registro genealógico.

34Y Mesobab, Jamlec, Josa, hijo de Amasías,

35Joel, Jehú, hijo de Josibías, hijo de Saraías, hijo de Asiel;

36Elioenai, Jaacoba, Jesohaías, Asaías, Adiel, Jesimiel, Banaías,

37Zizá, hijo de Sifí, hijo de Allón, hijo de Jedaías, hijo de Simrí, hijo de Samaías.

38Estos cuyos nombres van aquí, eran príncipes de sus familias, y sus casas paternas tomaron un gran aumento.

39Por lo cual se dirigieron a la entrada de Gedor, hasta el oriente del valle, buscando pastos para sus ganados.

40Y hallaron pastos pingües y buenos y una tierra espaciosa, tranquila y segura, donde antes habían habitado descendientes de Cam.

41Los antes mencionados por nombre vinieron en tiempo de Ezequías, rey de Judá, y destruyeron las tiendas de aquellos, y también a los Meunitas que habitaban allí, entregándolos al exterminio hasta el día de hoy; y entraron a habitar en su lugar, por haber allí pastos para sus ganados.

42Algunos de los hijos de Simeón, en número de quinientos hombres, se fueron a la montaña de Seír, bajo el mando de Faltías, Naarías, Rafaías y Usiel, hijos de Isí;

43y derrotaron a los restos de los amalecitas que habían escapado, y allí habitan hasta el día de hoy.

6Peperit autem ei Naara, Oozam, et Hepher, et Themani, et Ahasthari: isti sunt filii Naara.

7Porro filii Halaa, Sereth, Isaar et Ethnan.

8Cos autem genuit Anob, et Soboba, et cognationem Aharehel filii Arum.

9Fuit autem Jabes inclytus præ fratribus suis, et mater ejus vocavit nomen illius Jabes, dicens: Quia peperi eum in dolore.

10Invocavit vero Jabes Deum Israël, dicens: Si benedicens benedixeris mihi, et dilataveris terminos meos, et fuerit manus tua mecum, et feceris me a malitia non opprimi. Et præstitit Deus quæ precatus est.

11Caleb autem frater Sua genuit Mahir, qui fuit pater Esthon.

12Porro Esthon genuit Bethrapha, et Phesse, et Tehinna patrem urbis Naas: hi sunt viri Recha.

13Filii autem Cenez, Othoniel, et Saraia. Porro filii Othoniel, Hathath, et Maonathi.

14Maonathi genuit Ophra, Saraia autem genuit Joab patrem Vallis artificum: ibi quippe artifices erant.

15Filii vero Caleb filii Jephone, Hir, et Ela, et Naham. Filii quoque Ela: Cenez.

16Filii quoque Jaleleel: Ziph, et Zipha, Thiria, et Asraël.

17Et filii Ezra, Jether, et Mered, et Epher, et Jalon, genuitque Mariam, et Sammai, et Jesba patrem Esthamo.

18Uxor quoque ejus Judaia, peperit Jared patrem Gedor, et Heber patrem Socho, et Icuthiel patrem Zanoë: hi autem filii Bethiæ filiæ Pharaonis, quam accepit Mered.

19Et filii uxoris Odaiæ sororis Naham patris Ceila, Garmi, et Esthamo, qui fuit de Machathi.

20Filii quoque Simon, Amnon, et Rinna filius Hanan, et Thilon. Et filii Jesi, Zoheth, et Benzoheth.

21Filii Sela, filii Juda: Her pater Lecha, et Laada pater Maresa, et cognationes domus operantium byssum in domo juramenti.

22Et qui stare fecit solem, virique Mendacii, et Securus, et Incendens, qui principes fuerunt in Moab, et qui reversi sunt in Lahem: hæc autem verba vetera.

23Hi sunt figuli habitantes in plantationibus et in sepibus, apud regem in operibus ejus: commoratique sunt ibi.

24Filii Simeon: Namuel et Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul.

25Sellum filius ejus, Mapsam filius ejus, Masma filius ejus.

26Filii Masma: Hamuel filius ejus, Zachur filius ejus, Semei filius ejus.

27Filii Semei sedecim, et filiæ sex: fratres autem ejus non habuerunt filios multos, et universa cognatio non potuit adæquare summam filiorum Juda.

28Habitaverunt autem in Bersabee, et Molada, et Hasarsuhal,

29et in Bala, et in Asom, et in Tholad,

30et in Bathuel, et in Horma, et in Siceleg,

31et in Bethmarchaboth, et in Hasarsusim, et in Bethberai, et in Saarim: hæ civitates eorum usque ad regem David.

32Villæ quoque eorum: Etam, et Aën, Remmon, et Thochen, et Asan, civitates quinque.

33Et universi viculi eorum per circuitum civitatum istarum usque ad Baal: hæc est habitatio eorum, et sedium distributio.

34Mosobab quoque et Jemlech, et Josa filius Amasiæ,

35et Joël, et Jehu filius Josabiæ filii Saraiæ filii Asiel,

36et Elioënai, et Jacoba, et Isuhaia, et Asaia, et Adiel, et Ismiel, et Banaia,

37Ziza quoque filius Sephei filii Allon filii Idaia filii Semri filii Samaia.

38Isti sunt nominati principes in cognationibus suis, et in domo affinitatum suarum multiplicati sunt vehementer.

39Et profecti sunt ut ingrederentur in Gador usque ad orientem vallis, et ut quærerent pascua gregibus suis.

40Inveneruntque pascuas uberes, et valde bonas, et terram latissimam et quietam et fertilem, in qua ante habitaverant de stirpe Cham.

41Hi ergo venerunt, quos supra descripsimus nominatim, in diebus Ezechiæ regis Juda: et percusserunt tabernacula eorum, et habitatores qui inventi fuerant ibi, et deleverunt eos usque in præsentem diem: habitaveruntque pro eis, quoniam uberrimas pascuas ibidem repererunt.

42De filiis quoque Simeon abierunt in montem Seir viri quingenti, habentes principes Phalthiam et Naariam et Raphaiam et Oziel filios Jesi:

43et percusserunt reliquias, quæ evadere potuerant, Amalecitarum, et habitaverunt ibi pro eis usque ad diem hanc.

6And Naara bore him Ozam, and Hepher, and Themani, and Ahasthari: these are the sons of Naara.

7And the sons of Halaa, Sereth, Isaar, and Ethnan.

8And Cos begot Anob, and Soboba, the kindred of Aharehel the son of Arum.

9And Jabes was more honourable than any of his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabes, saying: Because I bore him with sorrow.

10And Jabes called upon the God of Israel, saying: If blessing thou wilt bless me, and wilt enlarge my borders, and thy hand be with me, and thou save me from being oppressed by evil. And God granted him the things he prayed for.

11And Caleb the brother of Sua beget Mahir, who was the father of Esthon.

12And Esthon beget Bethrapha, and Phesse, and Tehinna father of the city of Naas: these are the men of Recha.

13And the sons of Cenez were Othoniel, and Saraia. And the sons of Othoniel, Hathath, and Maonathi.

14Maonathi beget Ophra, and Saraia begot Joab the father of the Valley of artificers: for artificers were there.

15And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephone, were Hir, and Ela, and Naham. And the sons of Ela: Cenez.

16The sons also of Jaleleel: Ziph, and Zipha, Thiria, and Asrael.

17And the sons of Esra, Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon, and he beget Mariam, and Sammai, and Jesba the father of Esthamo.

18And his wife Judaia, bore Jared the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Icuthiel the father of Zanoe. And these are the sons of Bethia the daughter of Pharao, whom Mered took to wife.

19And the sons of his wife Odaia the sister of Naham the father of Celia, Garmi, and Esthamo, who was of Machathi.

20The sons also of Simon, Amnon, and Rinna the son of Hanan, and Thilon. And the sons of Jesi Zoheth, and Benzoheth.

21The sons of Sela the son of Juda: Her the father of Lecha, and Laada the father of Maresa, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen in the House of oath.

22And he that made the sun to stand, and the men of Lying, and Secure, and Burning, who were princes in Moab, and who returned into Lahem. Now these are things of old.

25Sellum his son, Mapsam his son, Masma his son.

26The sons of Masma: Hamuel his son, Zachur his son, Semei his son.

27The sons of Semei were sixteen, and six daughters: but his brethren had not many sons, and the whole kindred could not reach to the sum of the children of Juda.

28And they dwelt in Bersabee, and Molada, and Hasarsuhal,

29And in Bala, and in Asom, and in Tholad,

30And in Bathuel, and in Horma, and in Siceleg,

31And in Bethmarchaboth, and in Hasarsusim, and in Bethberai, and in Saarim. These were their cities unto the reign of David.

32Their towns also were Etam, and Aen, Remmon, and Thochen, and Asan, five cities.

33And all their villages round about these cities as far as Baal. This was their habitation, and the distribution of their dwellings.

34And Mosabab and Jemlech, and Josa, the son of Amasias,

35And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josabia the son of Saraia, the son of Asiel,

36And Elioenai, and Jacoba, and Isuhaia, and Asaia, and Adiel, and Ismiel, and Banaia,

37Ziza also the son of Sephei the son of Allon the son of Idaia the son of Semri the son of Samaia.

38These were named princes in their kindreds, and in the houses of their families were multiplied exceedingly.

39And they went forth to enter into Gador as far as to the east side of the valley, to seek pastures for their flocks.

40And they found fat pastures, and very good, and a country spacious, and quiet, and fruitful, in which some of the race of Cham had dwelt before.

41And these whose names are written above, came in the days of Ezechias king of Juda: and they beat down their tents, and slew the inhabitants that were found there, and utterly destroyed them unto this day: and they dwelt in their place, because they found there fat pastures.

42Some also of the children of Simeon, five hundred men, went into mount Seir, having for their captains Phaltias and Naaria and Raphaia and Oziel the sons of Jesi:

43And they slew the remnant of the Amalecites, who had been able to escape, and they dwelt there in their stead unto this day.
